A Leadership Camp For Girls - Service with a smile

Discovery Hills Day Camp (DHDC) is a fun-filled summer camp for girls entering grades 2nd through 4th. In this unique one-week program of character building, sports, recreation, and the arts, the girls will learn helpful home skills while creating genuine friendships based on virtue and service. In an environment of trust and adventure, DHDC offers a well-rounded, well-organized, fast-paced curriculum and the personal attention of a dedicated staff.

Open to girls of all creeds, races, and social backgrounds, the camp aims to encourage and develop the virtues necessary for each girl to become a positive influence on family, friends, and society. Inspired by the Christian understanding of the person, the program teaches the virtues of cheerfulness, generosity, and diligence, encouraging genuine femininity while helping each girl to practice an authentic form of leadership--the service of others.

Background Information

Designed by parents, educators, and other professionals, DHDC motivates young girls to use their talents in order to lead and serve others at home, school, and in the community. Aware of the spiritual dimension of cultivating virtues, leadership skills, and strong interpersonal relationships, DHDC entrusts the doctrinal and spiritual aspects of its activities to Opus Dei, a personal prelature of the Catholic Church. Opus Dei encourages people to practice Christian virtues in their families, their work, and their friendships.

DHDC also gives high school and college women the opportunity for leadership and service. Camp counselors, many of them former campers, prepare and give talks, assist with camp activities, and also serve as role models for the younger girls.

STAFF

DHDC is lead by a camp director, a college staff and high/middle school counselors.

The counselors are trained and selected through DHDC leadership program for high school and college students under the guidance of the Charwick Study Center. Our counselors are committed to a training program that lasts from March through June.

Volunteer Opportunities

DHDC could not offer such a rich camp experience if not for the many generous mothers who volunteer to make camp possible. We still have openings available.

Have little ones to take care of during the week? Former-camper volunteers are on site to offer child care for siblings ages 3-6 for any mom who volunteers during the week of camp.
